Library membership is free and open to all residents of Western Australia. Applicants need to be a resident of Western Australia. Please note that in order to join as a Library member, there is a requirement for the applicant to be 18 years or older. Applicants below the age of 18 will be asked to provide parent/guardian consent.
The Saint John Henry Newman Library provides a variety of resources and services for the different groups within our community including:
- CEWA Staff
- Clergy and members of religious orders
- Parish Workers (incl. Catechists)
- Catholic Agencies
- Tertiary Students (enrolled in an Religious Education associated course)
- Tertiary Teaching Staff
- General Public (all residents of Western Australia who are above 18 years of age)
Please note that personal information given to the Library is subject to the Commonwealth Privacy Act and is not used for any purpose other than membership.
Loan Conditions
Number of Loans
- Books/Audio books: 10 (up to 6 on one subject)
- Audiovisual materials: 12 items
- Print journals: 3 items
Loan Periods
Books/Audio books/Audiovisual materials: 60 days
Overdue Loans
Overdue notices are issued fortnightly and then invoices will be sent for unreturned items. Notices will usually be sent by email.
Standards of Behaviour
The Saint John Henry Newman Library is committed to providing a safe and welcoming space for all who use our services in any capacity.
Clients are required to:
- Honour Library regulations regarding overdue items, materials recalled by the Library, and the payment of fees for lost or damaged Library materials.
- Not intentionally damage, deface, or steal of any Library property or material, or any personal property or material.
- Treat other clients and staff with respect, in the building and when interacting with Library services online and over the phone, showing regard for others’ needs, sensitivities and rights.
- Cooperate with staff including exiting the Library or moving their belongings immediately at closing hours, when prompted by fire alarm or other emergency announcements
- Be responsible for their own belongings; please do not leave your items unattended. Staff have the right to remove unattended bags for security reasons.
- Wear an acceptable level of clothing – shirt, shorts and shoes, or the equivalent.
- Be responsible for observing the provisions of the Copyright Act 1968, when copying Library materials and sharing material online
Unacceptable behaviour – Behaviour that is offensive, inconsiderate or compromises the safety of the people or property is unacceptable and will not be tolerated.
These include but is not limited to (applies to physical and online environments):
- Anti-social or violent behaviour
- Aggression, harassment, and abuse
- Use of profanity or threatening language or gestures, bullying, or unwanted physical contact.
- Use of alcohol or illicit substances
- Theft or destruction of property
- Accessing undesirable material in the Library (even on private devices).
The Saint John Henry Newman Library reserves the right to refuse service and/or request any person to leave the premises, should they fail to uphold our Standards of Behaviour.
